WEB WRITING
Web writing is different from writing for print. The differences are slight, but important. First of all, people do not really read what they see when online; they only do scan reading or also called as “flicker rate” from their monitor. It means that people read 25% slower online than in print publications. What this means for you as a writer? It means that you can write a different way to connect with your readers.
Web writing is as good as journalism. Use the old words like “who, what, where, when, how and why”, the formula of journalistic writing for the Internet. This is called the inverted pyramid. Put your conclusion at first and then write the details back. You must connect it first to a reader immediately or lose the attention.
The readers scan instead of read, so you need to break your text into bite-size portions. You will notice that the item has short, thick sections. Each segment requires only 75 words or less. This opens some space around the text and makes comfortable for reading Chunky writing takes some practice but it is quite easy. Create powerful headlines and captions. Make your main points and move the reader along the writing.
Keep it simple! Write in easily understood terms, and the readers will love you. And always read what you write first. Every writer needs a good vocabulary. Keep a simple conclusion to promote and inform the readers with short, clear and bold writing. Then you will succeed as a great web writer!
